Knuckles Mountain Range and Conservation Forest

Knuckles, also called Dumbara Kanduvetiya, is a mountain massif and conservation forest across Matale and Kandy. Its cloud forests, montane grasslands, waterfalls and villages form part of the UNESCO-listed Central Highlands of Sri Lanka. There are nature walks and harder hikes; trails, access points and rules differ, so choose a route rather than assuming one general attraction or ticket.

Pitawala Pathana is a separately ticketed grassland trail to the Mini World's End viewpoint. A guide checked in September 2026 lists LKR 975 for a foreign adult there; this is not a general Knuckles Forest fee. Longer protected-forest hikes may require a permit and registered local guide. Confirm current fees, access, trail conditions and guide arrangements with the relevant Forest Department office or local guide. Central Province Tourism advises against hiking mountain routes alone. Weather changes quickly: carry water and rain/leech protection, stay on marked trails and away from exposed cliffs.
