Ella — Mountain Walks and Viewpoints

Ella offers ridge walks, valley views and the Nine Arch Bridge. Visit Ella describes Little Adam’s Peak as the closest and easiest hike; Ella Rock is longer. Open Pekoe Trail Stage 15 (Makulella–Ella) is a separate moderate 9.61 km, about 3 hours; a pass is required.

Fees vary by route. Pekoe Trail passes per stage: USD 10 for foreign visitors or LKR 600 for Sri Lankan residents; children under 12 are free and members pay no extra. Stage 15 reports an approximate LKR 970 Forest Department ticket for Ella Rock; confirm route applicability and today’s tariff. SLTDA says Nine Arch Bridge has no entry fee; transport costs extra. No single pass covers every walk.

Stage 15 follows the railway for about 1.5 km beyond Kithal Ella. Check the latest map, weather and access; respect estate/private-land rules and never obstruct trains. A professional guide is recommended. Hazards include steep ground, difficult navigation, leeches, heavy rain, thunderstorms and sun; rescue may not be nearby. Conditions can change.
