Belilena Cave lies in the wider Kitulgala area and is known as a natural and archaeological site. It is a separate outing, not an attraction in the village centre; check the route, visiting arrangements and current access with reliable local sources before setting out. This helps distinguish places in the surrounding district from those actually within Kitulgala and gives you time to account for the journey.

Kitulgala also has a connection with film history: scenes for The Bridge on the River Kwai were filmed in this area. The reference is to filming on the Kelani River, not to the famous bridge in Thailand. Do not plan around an intact film set or a permanently open museum.
